NaviLink App Recensioni

The worst!

This is archaic and inefficient. It requires you to do dumb things like return to the home screen. Why? What a waste.

NaviLink Bad app

This app is worthless. You have to go through 3 pages prior to getting to the page where the on/off switch is. Sometimes, it does a repeat of the pages as it going through to the last page. Plus, if you leave the app and do something else, it signs you off and then you have to go through all those pages again. I wish that they would do an Alexa connection. So, all you have to do is ask Alexa to turn the hot water on or off. So much easier. We had a Insteon hot water tank that the Alexa worked on perfectly!

Terrible App

From the setup to usability and functionality - this app is full of bugs, not intuitive and missing critical functionality. The H/W unit is great - but the app is terrible. Took an hour on the phone with support to work around their bugs to sign up and then program the recirc pump with start and end times. It crashed when trying to add a second time block. A better design would be to have start time and duration. The ability to manually turn on recirc with the phone is missing - Which is what I actually bought the App for. NOT RECOMMENDED. This App needs so much work. But if you have a Navien Tankless HW it is the only option.

Recirc Scheduling Works

The app is good for seeing your units real time stats and setting the recirculating schedule. Need: A quick circulate button that turns the unit to heat and recirculates for 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 minutes.

It doesn’t work

The app doesn’t work. I even called tech support and they couldn’t figure out what to do. They were going to reach out to the developer. It has been five days and I still haven’t heard back from them. Don’t waste your money until they fix it. I tried pairing my android phone. I got a little farther but the device wouldn’t register. Total fail. They clearly don’t test the product. In addition, I suspect the hardware uses old hardware that doesn’t support 5.0 and 2.4 wifi with the same SSID. I will confirm this if they ever call me back! I sat on hold for an hour last time. - I called back. I even tried with an android phone. I got a bit farther but apparently their registration server is down and tech support has no idea when it will be fixed. I even tried hard wiring the device and because the registration server was down, it wouldn’t work. Great idea; terrible implementation.

App

App is horrible. You have to be at house to set up the network. The interface is almost impossible to use or connect to the NaviLink box.

App no longer works cannot connect to Wi-Fi or nothing else

I cannot get the hot water tank to connect to the app anymore keeps telling me to reset the network I have over and over and over

Awful device and app

No longer will connect to server. The app was barely useful before that. It’s completely useless now. If I could give it zero stars I would.

Very basic but I have it working

I use only for space heating, not DHW. A few glitches in setup. One high level annoyance is the requirement for precise location. Hate that! Too creepy. So now I have some basic things I can monitor and a very basic graph. It satisfies my curiosity on a few things while it’s new. Once the novelty wears off I wonder if I’ll see value in this at all for me. But now that I’ve paid for the device, future buyers will need no be their incentive. There should be A LOT of potential here. Never mind changing settings - I can go to the unit for that very rare need. So many more status parameters I should be able to see *and GRAPH*. I’d love to track the output and return temps for example. And *definitely* the output capacity over time. Why can’t I graph whatever I want? An absolute dream would be a query mechanism via HTTP to extract what I want and put it in a spreadsheet. But that will remain a dream. But it’s being done elsewhere on home monitoring systems).

App needs fixed ASAP

App has mysteriously started kicking off schedule at random times. This defeats the purpose of having a set schedule saving propane when not needing water to recirculate. Also there needs to be a manual recirculate button added to the app to manually control when you want to recirculate just like a hot button would do.

Cannot register product

I have a new npe 240a. When I try to connect connect Navlink it keeps telling me “cannot register product, please try again.”

Idiotic Setup, bad customer service

So, you just got your new heater and paid extra money for the wireless capability, and in the setup, it wants to know the email address and phone number of the installer. After several attempts and 2 hours on customer support, they don’t have a solution and they’ll “look into it” This app was built by a programmer from 1983 that thinks that people have to fill in useless information before they can get in. After spending all this money on this system, save your money and get a Rinnai heater. I’m going to have the contractor rip this thing out and put in one of those.

How come it has 1.7 stars for this user experience

I wish I could give a -5 star

Can’t connect - product only supports 2.4 GHz

Had the navien tankless water heater professionally installed, including the Navilink Wi-Fi router. The app is useless, and I couldn’t connect my iPhone 13 with to the Navilink router. I can initiate the Wi-Fi set up, connect to the Wi-Fi SSID that is generated, but the app hangs and says “this product only supports 2.4Ghz” and kicks me out. From a pure app perspective (this is a review on the App Store, anyways), it’s garbage and i won’t waste my time until this is fixed.

Do not buy the high end or lite

Like above when I seen the reviews I thought this can’t be good. However I wanted the function to work as the salesman explained it would. Never got the impossible registration to use any features. You wait on hold for a long while then when you talk you are fed a lie that the server is down. Call again it’s your email you started it with no longer work make a new one. Now call again it’s reload the app…. Then get told the app doesn’t control the recirculating element but I can’t know for sure because I still can not register it. Handling crypto keychains is much easier then this….. Forgot to say they somewhere in the calls suggested my house had interference make it 20’ from Wi-Fi. Make it 10’ nope add a lan line. All these things I did and still unable to register….. they can’t register it on line and communicate to their system….. I you like to spend money to be aggravated and waste hours of time and put on little missions to no end and drive here for this and go up in your attic to move this or that or drill a hole and feed a cable. If that sounds like something you want to spend your weekends or free time doing and just doing them things because someone said to but it’s not to make the Navi link work…. Then spend $200 on this fancy box your going to be so happy having tec support send you on mission grinds.

Navien are you listening?

With so many complaints on here, and on the web, you would think the company would be taking notice and make some changes. It just seems to fall on deaf ears. Making the interface and functionality usable is not rocket science please please please do something!

Invalid Installer ID

Pro tip: if you’re trying to register the app and it won’t take installer ID or phone number, just leave those fields blank. There, I just saved you the 45 minutes it took on the phone with Navien to find that out.

Terrible update

In this latest update, the whole app configuration changed. I have a really terrible time accessing the temp controls or any controls for that matter via the app. My partner and i prefer different shower temps. He prefers to turn it down via the app for what ever reason instead of using the spigots (thats beside the point). I can’t even get the app to LOAD to turn it up. And by the time i figure out he lowered the temp, i have already stepped in the shower so its REALLY inconvenient to try to go ti the garage and manually turn up the tank in a towel

An app from a great hardware company, not a software one

I wish they hired someone who understands user experience. The app is not at all intuitive. I’ve had to do some extensive Google searching of tips and tricks from others to figure out how to, for example, schedule the recirculation program. E.g, the word “Enable” really means “Enabled”, referring to the scheduled program. So, to enable the recirculation pump outside of the scheduled hours, you must tap on “Enable” to disable the program, which grays out the word Enable, and starts the pump. It would be nice to have a simple button for either overriding the program or turning the pump on manually. That is just one example of a very non-intuitive User Interface. Unfortunate because the tankless heater itself is awesome!

Please help

Tech support is useless! Passed the buck to the developer of the app and haven’t gotten a reply from them. Trying to register my nfb-200h boiler in the app so I can access boiler through app. Asks for product name I’ve entered every possible variation of nfb-200h with the dash without the dash, backwards, all uppercase all lowercase. Always get a alert stating to provide the right product name. Can anyone help with what the proper input of information is? Shouldn’t be very hard on their end to have a drop-down menu with their products!!

Gas usage

Software update changed gas usage from cubic feet to therms did not take into consideration the use of Nat gas vs propane. My cubic ft usage was correct but therms were off by a factor of 2.

Can not reconnect water heaters after home router change

After installing a new home router, I cannot reconnect my water heaters. I get the notification of a “network change” in the app but when I go through the steps to setup the new router, the app crashes/closes after pressing the “wifi settings” button. I have tried multiple things such as updating phone operating system, updating app, connecting to the navilink router via wifi outside of the app, etc. The new home router works fine, but the new app has bugs that need to be addressed.

An update at last!!! A little better…..

Well after a few years of waiting (due to the awfulness of the prior version) I got an update to the app pushed out a couple of days ago. On installing I had to completely redo my login (seems to be a different process now) and after getting in I can say that the app redesign has made some improvements, for example - I can at last adjust the schedule for the recirculating pump in a screen that at least makes some semblance of sense, and the layout as a whole is somewhat nicer. But there are still issues: Big issue: due to the new login process I need to add members (namely my wife) so that she can also control the water heater (and not have to rely on me all the time) - however in the simple act of typing in an email address to add her the app simply will not allow the email address (keep getting an error) - as a result I cannot add her and to say this is annoying is an understatement. Smaller issue: on the recirc pump scheduling - when you click add to add a new schedule element for always defaults back to today - even if you clicked a different day in the prior screen - so watch out for that as you may accidentally add a schedule to “today” when you wanted it on a different day…. Smaller issue: When recirc pump schedule is “Enabled” is still calls it “Enable” and when “Disabled” it still calls it “Disable” - which has totally the opposite meaning in the English language- can this group of developers not hire a native English speaker to fix these annoyances?? All in all due to the fact that I CAN now co tell the recirc pump in some sort of process I am grateful - but the inability to be able to type in a simple email address to add a member is inexcusable.

From bad to worse

I’ve been using the older version of this app for a few years and just lived with the various quirks and malfunctions others have well documented. Recently, I was forced to upgrade to a newer version. When I did, I was immediately promoted to recreate my account using an email address. The app said it sent a verification link to the address I entered but none arrived (inbox or spam). I tried multiple times, same result. I called tech support who suggested entering my old login credentials first then letting the app prompt for my email address. I did that and encountered the same result… no verification email. Now the app is worthless and I have no ability to control the pump schedule. At least the old version worked to a degree. The new one renders my NaviLink useless.

Beware of new version (2.00.00)!

I just installed the new version released yesterday. There is a change to the sign in process that requires email validation. Unfortunately the validation email never arrives or was never sent (after several attempts). Now I’m unable to access my water heater remotely. If you rely on remote access (the primary reason for using the app) don’t download a new version until a fix is released!

Absolute piece of crap

The connection process will drive you insane. I am a tech savvy person and I found it infuriating. Their user interface and technology is stuck in 1990s. If I knew the app will be so bad, I wouldn’t have picked Navien tankless water heater. Just can’t believe it. Stay away from it

No real value

The app really does not provide any meaningful information or functionality. Heating mode (space vs DHW), boiler pressure, etc are not visible

Unethical

The controller/device was never able to be set up completely. Four hours trying to get it connected and more than an hour on hold for technical support that never answered. Finally scanned the Internet and found 99% of people reported grossly poor experience with this unit and this app. It appears that Navien doesn’t care. I highly recommend avoiding this.

Limited but effective functions

The app views water and gas usage, allows programmed on-off off times, remote on-off, adjust temperature, that’s about it - and about what’s needed. The DST has to be entered on the heaters manually but let’s hope we will eventually get rid of DST. The router itself has a bug that it doesn’t connect to 5 GHz band on a multi band router so a separate 2.4 GHz band need to be used.

Daylight Savings Time Adjustment is Wrong!

I've used this app for three years and while it does have useful functions, there are several ongoing bugs and performance issues that have never been resolved. In fact, I don't believe it's had an update in well over a year. Worse, Navien — a normally excellent company with excellent products — is clueless about the app whenever I contact technical support to report my issues: The recirculation schedule gets whacked whenever there's a DST change. The Water Heaters receive DST time changes online directly from Navien (or the Developer), yet the App schedules are not updated to align with those changes, which forces you to have to manually — painfully, in fact — update the individual daily schedules with incorrect times in order to make the schedule work correctly. What's worse is that the DST updates sent directly to the heaters automatically by Navien are based on DST dates that have been changed many years ago!!

Can not disable recirculating schedule.

The option button Disable to stop the recirculating schedule from running does not work properly. Selecting it runs recirculating constantly. Recirculating should only run when “Enable” schedule is selected. The schedule capability is the main feature of the app that I use. It works fine except when the time is not adjusted for daylight saving changes.

Error or can’t connect to the server

Installed the device and can see it on the network through the http configuration page. However in app after registering all I get is an error message or unable to connect to the server. This app and the architecture needs to be rethought. Please provide an api so at least community can write a better app. Also please provide better support so that issues can be resolved.

Terrible

There’s no excuse for an app like this in 2022.I wouldn’t expect a company making water heaters to all of a sudden spool up a software engineering department, but there is no excuse to not contract app development out to someone who knows what they’re doing. The idea is great, the tankless water heater is great, the interface the app provides with the water heater is worthless. The one and only functioning feature of this app should be to activate pump recirculation, and you can’t do that, nor can you see the status of your recirculation loop. Either you provide app interface with your hardware, or you don’t, but marketing some awesome app based interface for your water heaters and dropping this into the App Store is a joke.

Horrible app

For some reason Navien is stuck in 2005 with their app. It doesn’t even let you trigger the hot button. All you can do with the app is turn the unit on/off or change the water temp, which I bet most people never change and they left out the most needed hot button functionality. What’s the purpose of this app? And sadly I wasted money on the WiFi module. App doesn’t get updated very often. Navien gets an “F-“on this one. Total fail.

Poorly designed app

No instructions. No support.

Navi link

Worthless app. Simply does not work is not user friendly and not intuitive at all a shame for Navien.

Rapaciously Expensive; Abominable Functionality - Terrible Overall

This App is pretty much pointless. It does not do what it is advertised to do, and the things it is supposed to do, are about as inefficient as they could be. Recirculation, for example, cannot be controlled from this app. With this app the NaviLink is worthless and expensive and useless.

Terrible experience

Connecting over Wi-Fi is a mess, usability and basic use of labels to indicate what to do next is deeply confusing. App is horrific. Don’t bother. It’s a pointless service.

Add more features

The current version does not appear to support real time monitoring. It doesn’t even show all the information that is available on the control panel. The only thing that can really be done with the NHB boiler is to turn it on or off.

Just a wall ornament

As previous reviewers have mentioned, connecting to a wireless server is impossible. We have incredible Wi-Fi coverage in our house but cannot connect, no matter where we take the device. And unfortunately, there is no technical support for anything I/T related.

Hard to pair THEN CRASHES EVERY TIME

Truly a garbage app. Navien should be mortified.

The app is a horrible interface.

It works when you figure it out. Need a complete redesign.

App needs some work

The app does I guess what little it is intended to do but it has a tendency to be non-responsive to touch commands when changing screens at least on the iPhone XR. Would like to see all the water heater configuration commands made available on the mobile platform.

NAV link does not display current gas usage.

Had to reinstall NAV link still does not display gas usage. This is troublesome as the cost of this unit was not cheap. Have contacted tech-support they don’t know what problem is. As far as tankless water heater for house works great I have the 240 A.

Buggy and rudimentary

Very once in a while stops working and no app reset will revive it. Then after a day or two it will start working again. No idea what is happening. No easy way to use app alone to start and stop the water pump. Instead, I just turn the heater off when I want to stop the pump and on when I need the water circulating. App doesn’t update the display data when the app is open and running. You have to hit the refresh button every time. App throws you out after 5 minutes and you have to log back in. There more quirks, but I’m too annoyed to spend the time writing them all down.

No hotbutton?

I was told this would have hot button. I only have the weekly schedule option. Where did the hot button feature go?

If we only knew

This App has the most primitive ,worst possible coding which makes it a pain to use and ineffective. Someone must have had their teenager write it and not upgraded it since. This accompanies what is known as the best tankless water heater. But- had we known how useless and painful the app is, we would have bought something else. The thought of being trapped into using this for the next twenty years is a harsh sentence.

Not perfect, but head and shoulders better than other tankless heater apps.

We just replaced almost new Navien 199iN with NPE 240A. The Rinnai never deliver 100% of the specked hot water flow curve, was running at around 80%. The Navien is delivering close to 100% and it’s enough water for us. The Rinnai came with a WIFI module that one can use with their app. So, we bought the NaviLink box to have the same option for the Navien unit. I’m an engineer, so take my “it’s easy” with a grain of salt. But installing it and setting up the account and the app was a breeze. Unlike the Rinnai R Control, this app actually works, the WIFI module stays connected to the wireless network. There was mode heater telemetry available in Control R, but for basic status and control, the Navien WiFi module and the app are stable and do what you ask them to do.

Recirculation pump

It says I can turn on the pump on my way home from work and wireless from any room in my house. How do you do that?? There is nothing but a schedule to turn on the pump. Tech support told me I needed to buy the hot button to do that. All your literature says you can do it by the app. Any help??
